We are very happy to report that we have just released NeoFinder 8.7.1, certified for macOS 15 "Sequoia"!
However, due to the large number of problems and bugs in macOS 15, we very highly recommend staying away from macOS 15 as long as possible, especially if you use your Mac for work.
Current known bugs in macOS 15.0:
- The Firewall causes network connections to drop randomly
- iCloud Drive is often non-reposnive and slow
- The SMB client in macOS, needed to connect to NAS for larger file servers, is very slow, causing reading and writing on data from such servers to be very slow
- The Calendar.app can damage your calendars after syncing them to an iOS device
- QuickLook in the Finder is often very slow, and crashes a lot for SVG images (/System/Library/ExtensionKit/Extensions/ImageThumbnailExtension.appex/Contents/MacOS/ImageThumbnailExtension in particular crashes a lot)
We really hope that Apple will quickly start fixing these new bugs, and maybe some of the giant amount of older bugs, too.
The good news is that NeoFinder 8.7.1 also works wonderfully in all previous macOS versions including macOS 10.14 "Mojave", and we did fix all bugs we have seen in our own code so far!
NeoFinder 8.7.1 also has some new features, and we will of course report about them here in the next days.

Catalog "compressed" NEF photos from Nikon Z8 and Z9
NeoFinder 8.7.1 is now able to catalog the thumbnails and metadata of compressed NEF files created by the Nikon Z 8 and Z 9 cameras!
This is independent of the macOS version, as Apple is unable to read these special RAW files even in macOS 15.0 "Sequoia".
The beautiful sample photos for this screenshot were created by Richard Butler:

AutoUpdater Logging
The AutoUpdater in NeoFinder 8.7.1 now writes the duration time, as well as the number of files and folders to the log file after updating of a Catalog has completed.
That is very helpful for monitoring what is happening to your cataloged volumes over time.
The NeoFinder Users Guide has more about what the AutoUpdater can do for you: https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/3/3.9/auto-updater.html

AppleScript for "text content"
NeoFinder 8.7.1 adds AppleScript access to the cataloged text content of files. You can find this new property in the Catalog Item in the AppleScript Dictionary of NeoFinder.

Where to look?
Reading photo metadata is always an interesting and fascinating topic, for NeoFinder 8.7.1, we fixed a problem where the GPS values in some iOS 17.x (both JPG and HEIC file formats!) versions had a slightly different format and value range that could cause NeoFinder to display the wrong view direction for those photos.
As this fix will only come into play when a photo file is cataloged by NeoFinder, this is a good time to remember that you can also always visually correct the view direction: https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/20/20.6/g ... ction.html
