AVIF photos!

by neo-admin
NeoFinder 8.6.1 can catalog thumbnails and metadata of photos in the ".avif" format.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVIF

This open source compressor format can contain high-res photos with a large color depth, and a much better compression rate than JPG.

NeoFinder uses the AVIF codec from Apple, available in macOS 14 "Sonoma" and newer.

The eBook reader in NeoFinder, responsible to grab interesting and important metadata from the electronic books, like the cover, description, author, title and all that, is now able to read the publishing date of ePub files as well.

This gets added to the Text Preview section in the Inspector, but also to the Caption Date, so it can be used to search and sort these books.

The Photo Contact Sheet in #NeoFinder 8.6.1 now displays the sample output in its window based on the selected page setup format, so you can really see how it looks!

In this case, the "Landscape" page format was used, and NeoFinder now shows that properly.

And of course, Neofinder will now remember your selected page setup for the next time you will to use it.

The editor for the photo export Watermark Presets now allows you to duplicate an existing watermark. That makes it a lot easier to create multiple similar watermarks.

Use the context menu in the list of watermarks, and the Duplicate command there.

We have massively improved the scheduling of the Auto Updater, increasing the reliability when running a schedule in situations where a modal dialog is active, and others.

Some features have improvements that you cannot see, but they are still there!

Save a video frame!

Posted: Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:40 pm
by neo-admin
New context menu command "Save video frame" in the built-in player in Gallery View.

It will take the current video frame, and save it as a JPG file to the location you tell it.

We had initially added that to NeoFinder 8.6 already, but Apple has introduced a bug in macOS 14.4 where they were not showing our context menu, but stubbornly used their own, which we explicitly told it not to.
Well, now it works even in macOS "Sonoma".

Server name...

Posted: Thu Jul 04, 2024 6:11 pm

If you catalog a file server or NAS volume, NeoFinder now adds the server name to the Catalog and shows it in the Inspector.

That is useful for large installation with multiple file servers, so you can quickly see where the data that was cataloged is actually stored.

If you move a Catalog or a Catalog Folder into an Catalog Folder where such an item already exists, NeoFinder now presents a duplicate items warning, and the option to overwrite, keep both, or ignore.

That makes it much easier to manage large numbers of Catalogs!

What Mac has created that Catalog?

Posted: Thu Aug 08, 2024 9:01 am
by neo-admin
Cataloging or Updating a Catalog now adds the name of the computer that was doing that Update to the NeoFinder Catalog.

It uses the name you have given your Mac in the Apple "System Settings", in the "General" section, and then the "About" section.

This helps when you catalog volumes with generic names like "Macintosh HD" on multiple Macs in your network.

Select a Catalog in the NeoFinder LIBRARY and check out the Inspector for this data:
